05/03/2021 - ERA collaborates with the people of Cedães in studying Alto do Prado do Castelo

The parish council of Cedães, in the municipality of Mirandela, asked for ERA's collaboration in finding out more about Alto do Prado do Castelo, a place that is central to the villages of this parish - Vila Verdinho, Vale de Lobo and Cedães - and also a centre of identity for this community. On the site, there are ruins of Capela de Nossa Senhora do Monte, abandoned some 120 years ago but never forgotten by the population.

There are also important remains of collapsed walls and materials from different periods, from the Iron Age to the Middle Ages. It is even hypothesised that there were occupations dating back to prehistoric times. 

This is a very unique and important project for ERA because of its particular nature: it emerges from the local community and is carried out with and for it. More than a dozen local inhabitants are taking part in the excavations.
