ERA Arqueologia recently carried out geophysics and remote sensing work — in this case, using a geo-radar — at the Church of Santa Cruz do Castelo in Lisbon. This monument, located in a tourist hotspot, is undergoing a considerable restoration and promotion project.

Interviewed by the newspaper Público, ERA's Tiago do Pereiro, who used the device mentioned above, said that “we identified what appear to be graves on the side of the church”, adding that “we also [mapped] the square in front of the church, the idea was to try to see if there were any graves around it”.

Lucy Evangelista, a biological anthropologist from ERA, was also interviewed following the discovery of a burial crypt beneath the mortuary chapel. She commented that the crypt space “was full to the top” and “received a bit of everything: men, women, children”.
