27/01/2025 - ERA's Sofia Nogueira, speaking to Porto Canal: ‘From the world of the dead, we reconstructed a world of the living’
ERA has been carrying out an important archaeological project that reveals details about the harsh life in Porto in 1832-33, during the siege that took place in the middle of the Civil War. The project is taking place on land next to the Public Library in the centre of Porto, which served as a cemetery during the cholera outbreak that occurred during this period.
José Carvalho (archaeologist) and Sofia Nogueira (biological anthropologist), heads of ERA's team responsible for the archaeological excavations - more than 350 bodies have already been recovered from the site - made statements to the Porto municipality's media. Check out the links below.
