Muralha medieval do Castelo de Miranda do Douro
1 - Medieval wall
The medieval wall is 65.5m long and 2.90m wide. Certain types of elements detected in the defensive structure may indicate that it was constructed prior to its foundation in the reign of D. Dinis (transition XIII XIV century).
A muralha medieval apresenta 65,5m de comprimento por 2,90m de largura. Determinados tipos de aparelho detetados na estrutura defensiva (ex.: cotovelos), poderão indiciar uma construção, do ponto de vista cronológico, anterior à estrutura dionisina datada da transição do séc. XIII para o séc. XIV.
2 - Wall debris
Associated with the so-called war of Mirandum (May 8th, 1762), in which the city suffered a Spanish siege culminating in the explosion of the ammunition storehouse that destroyed part of the castle, walls and houses in a great fire. The Spanish army destroyed what remained of the defenses of the city, reducing the castle to what exists today, since it was not rebuilt or used again.
Momento associado à designada guerra de Mirandum (8 de maio de 1762), em que a cidade sofreu cerco espanhol culminando na explosão do paiol que destruiu parte do castelo, muralhas e casario num grande incêndio. O exército espanhol destruiu o que restava das defesas da cidade, tendo o castelo ficado reduzido praticamente ao que hoje existe, já que não tornou a ser reconstruído ou utilizado.
Dry stone wall of undetermined functionality. It is probably one of the first structures adapted to ballistic shooting of Miranda do Douro castle. Stratigraphically this structure is prior to the firing range, since it overlaps it. Chronologically the structure under analysis should have been built between the 16th and 17th centuries.
Muro em pedra seca de funcionalidade indeterminada. Trata-se, provavelmente, de uma das primeiras estruturas adaptadas à pirobalística (armas de fogo) do castelo de Miranda do Douro. Estratigraficamente esta estrutura é anterior à bancada de tiro, já que esta se sobrepõe à primeira. Cronologicamente a estrutura em análise deverá ter sido construida entre os séculos XVI/XVII.
4 - Shooting galleries
Structure adapted to pyrobalistics: shooting range (mid 17th / 18th century). Features small windows / holes for firing firearms.
Estrutura adaptada à pirobalística: bancada de tiro (meados do séc. XVII/XVIII). Apresenta pequenos janelos/orifícios para o disparo de armas de fogo.
5 - Paving between the wall and the barbican
Stone structure between the medieval wall and the barbican. From a constructive point of view, the path consists of stone and pebbles. Chariot wheels marks can be seen embedded in the path next to the access door.
Empedrado localizado entre a muralha medieval e a barbacã. Do ponto de vista construtivo o caminho é constituído por pedra aparelhada e seixos. Apresenta marcas de rodado de carroças, junto à porta de acesso.
6 - Debris of one of the entrances along the path between the barbican and the medieval wall.
Overturn of granite elements that made up the door arch of the door that of access to the area located between the wall and the barbican.
Derrube constituído por silhares e aduelas em granito que compunham o arco da porta que dava acesso à liça, localizada entre a muralha e a barbacã.
7 – Barbican
