Reference Situation Characterization
The characterization of the reference situation refers to a set of works whose objective is to carry out the archaeological and heritage survey of a given area.
It includes a preliminary research phase and an archaeological prospecting phase that lead to the production of a final report on the works accomplished, in which a summary assessment of the heritage elements identified is produced, together with their hierarchization according to scientific and cultural importance.
In terms of licensing works, the characterization of the reference situation constitutes a necessary measure to define the constraints to be imposed or, on the other hand, their omission should the final report inform about the non-existence of heritage elements of significant value.
